O Captain, My Captain

This project required me to choose a poem and animate it, making sure to express the mood and feeling of the author’s work. It was also a requirement to record our own voice reading the poem and use it in our piece. 

I selected O Captain, My Captain by Walt Whitman, a poem that was written in the 1860’s about the death of President Abraham Lincoln. I wanted my poetry video to reflect the time period it was written in. Because video cameras did not exist during that era, I expressed motion by using a technique called parallax scrolling on each photo. I also utilized sound to help the viewer further visualize the scene that is being described in the poem.
